Mediation is the process in which disputing parties come together with a neutral and impartial person to work toward a resolution of any or all of the outstanding issues in conflict.  The process can take place at any time during the course of a dispute, including prior to filing a lawsuit, dissolution or separation proceedings, and/or any time before trial.  Mediation can help minimize the costs involved in a lawsuit and can assist the parties in reaching a mutually acceptable settlement voluntarily.
